Getting to Skukuza Rest Camp, Kruger National Park

Delegates can fly directly to Skukuza Airport, which has direct flights from O.R. Tambo International Airport (Johannesburg) and Cape Town International Airport. Many flights from Australia, Europe and the US arrive in the early morning to Johannesburg's O.R. Tambo International Airport, allowing a connection directly to Skukuza Airport in Kruger National Park.

There is an option to fly into Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (MQP), which has more frequency of flights, however, is further away from the Skukuza Rest Camp.

If you need to overnight in Johannesburg, there are hotels within OR Tambo Airport and connect directly to the arrivals and departures lounges. Hotels to book within the OR Tambo Airport precinct include:

The Nombolo Mdhluli Conference Centre is in Skukuza, the largest rest camp and administrative centre for Kruger National Park. The rest camp is situated in the southern part of the park on the bank of the Sabie river.

Kruger National Park is considered safe for travellers. In the park you will meet tourists or staff working for the tour operators, accommodations or park authorities. Skukuza rest camp is fenced and gated, so you can walk to and from the conference centre, accommodation and restaurant.

Malaria & Vaccinations

Kruger National Park lies in a malaria zone and there is an elevated risk during the wet summer months from September to May. The conference is being held in the wet season, but you should consult your travel doctor for current advice regarding antimalarial medication and vaccinations for travel to Kruger National Park and South Africa.

Park Entry Times

Kruger National Park is fenced around the outside of the park. During the month of October, entry and exit to the park is between 05:30 and 18:00. When you reach the gate, you need to have enough travel time to reach your camp by 18:00. The closest gate to Skukuza Rest Camp is the Paul Kruger Gate, which is 20 minutes from the camp. You will not be allowed to enter the gate if there is not enough time for you to travel to the camp.

Park Entry and Conservation Fees

Registered Conference Attendees: Registered conference attendees staying in the Skukuza Camp will not be charged the entry and conservation fee for the days of the conference (Tuesday to Saturday). You will be charged for additional days when you check in at the conference centre.

Reservation Number

Attendees will need to quote the conference reservation number when entering, which will be emailed prior to the conference.

Conservation Fees are charged per day of visit.

Children are up to 11 years of age.
