REFRESHER COURSE NEWS
CLINICAL SKILLS UPLIFTMENT INITIATIVE
The UCT Department of O&G will launch its inaugural Skills Upliftment Initiative supported by the Nina Lipshitz Trust, at the 2019 UCT/O&G Refresher Course.

The aim of this initiative is to invest in the advancement of surgical and procedural skills that will have an impact on the improvement of women's health.

This series of workshops will be conducted two days prior to commencement of the Refresher Course. The following exciting workshops will be presented:

OASI WORKSHOP

27 November 2019 (half day - morning)

This OASI workshop is targeted at midwives, specialist trainees and obstetricians working in the labour ward setting. It is aimed at familiarising participants with pelvic anatomy focussing specifically on the pelvic floor, postpartum examinations to improve OASI detection, techniques in OASI prevention, as well as biologic specimens used to have hands on training in evidence-based OASI repair. The techniques of episiotomy repair will also be covered in this workshop.

Course summary:

In this workshop we will discuss some of the controversies related to the use of vaginal mesh for the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse and incontinence, specifically addressing how this impacts on our decision making with regards to treatment options for stress urinary incontinence.
We will give an overview of the available urethral bulking agents for the treatment of SUI. We will present the Bulkamid outcome and safety data, including the results of the RCT comparing Bulkamid to TVT-R.
The delegates will all get the opportunity to have "hands-on" training in the correct technique for Bulkamid injection.
