Depart Durban and travel inland via Pietermaritzburg to the famous and scenic Midlands Meander arts and craft route.
En-route visit the site of Nelson Mandela's capture in 1962, which led to his imprisonment on Robben Island.
The Meander route offers a unique mix of more than 160 places to eat, drink, sleep, shop, play and generally have fun. Started many years ago as a voluntary collection of crafters, who wondered if they could attract visitors to leave the beaten track and explore their studios and galleries, the Midlands Meander has grown into an eclectic and fascinating mix of arts and crafts, world-class restaurants and homely comforts, with a wide range of sporting, environmental and historical pursuits thrown in too. Physical, culinary or cerebral, there is no limit to the experiences you'll find here.
Shop for gorgeous turned wooden bowls and boards, exquisite beadwork, jewellery and embroidered ware, ceramic pots of every shape and size, glassware and stained glass goods, lavender oils and soaps, leatherware - the list is endless and this is a great place to do some shopping for those gifts you want to take home!
A wholesome leisurely lunch is taken en-route.
In the afternoon, continue with more meander visits before a leisurely journey back to Durban.
