Mission Project Visits

The following Mission Project Visits have been set up specifically for delegates and visitors attending the World Methodist Conference. They are designed to provide you with insight into some of the programmes supported by Methodist churches in and around KwaZulu Natal.

Phakamisa - A ministry of the Pinetown Methodist Church (MP01)
Date: 5th August 2011
Cost: ZAR 350.00
Visit an educare centre in an informal settlement. Join in prayer with the caregivers and see how they strive to provide for their families by growing vegetables. This year Phakamisa will support and educate 16000 children every day through their various programs. These children live in extremely disadvantaged areas and do not have access to other aid.
Udobo School & Angels of Mercy Care Centre (MP02)
Date: 4th & 8th August 2011
Cost: ZAR 315.00
Visit the Udobo pre-school, situated at the Montclair Church. One of the goals of the Foundation is to uplift and give hope to these children in view of the poor and disadvantaged backgrounds from which they come. A visit to the pregnancy centre is combined with a cup of tea, thereafter. Our final stop is at the Clairwood crèche, youth centre and sewing mission.
Port Shepstone Methodist Outreach & Nyangwini Mission (MP03)
Date: 10th August 2011
Cost: ZAR 390.00
AIDS project in operation and learn about other mission projects taking place on the site. Thereafter, travel to Port Shepstone Church where light refreshments will be provided. Visitors will be given a brief presentation on the mission work of the circuit. Groups will be invited to visit some of the projects around Port Shepstone.
DIAKONIA Council of Churches (MP04)
Date: 6th & 9th August 2011
Cost: ZAR 100.00
Visit the Diakonia Council of Churches situated in central Durban and hear about their work in this regard, as the organisation continues to work for a transformed society in the advent of our new democracy. You will also learn about the prominent role the Methodist Church has played in the life of this organisation.
Battlefields, Big 5 Game Reserve & Thembelihle care centre (MP05)
Date: 10th - 11th August 2011
Cost: ZAR 4719.00 pps / ZAR 4900.00 single
Meander through the midlands visiting the quaint shops. Visit museums and battle sites and learn the history of the Anglo-Boer War. The tour includes a visit to Thembelihle Shelter near New Castle. A highlight is an open vehicle game drive in a private game reserve. This tour starts in Durban and ends in Johannesburg. See itinerary for full details...(2 days / 1 night)
Seth Mokitimi Methodist Seminary (SMMS) (MP06)
Date: 6th and 10th August 2011
Cost: ZAR 480.00 per person
SMMS is truly an architectural masterpiece, worth visiting for the serene beauty of the complex. Your visit will introduce you to more than exterior or inanimate objects. The pioneering and inspirational programs emanating from this, the only recognized seminary for all ministers-in-training within the Southern African connexion, will inspire you. As part of the visit, you will also visit some of the transformative, community-based mission projects with whom SMMS has partnered. Your visit to SMMS will be a Pilgrimage of Pain & Hope.
